White grubs are the larvae of Japanese Beetles. Early in summer, the beetles lay their eggs in the soil beneath the turf. Soon after the eggs hatch, the larvae begin feeding on the roots of the turf. As they grow, the larvae have voracious appetites and, if not controlled, can quickly destroy an entire lawn.
The damage that white grubs inflict on lawns by feeding on sub-surface root systems is only one of the problems they create. These small, soft-bodied pests are sought after by insect-eating animals such as birds, skunks and moles. While digging for grubs as a food source, these animals can cause severe turf damage. These pests are particularly destructive throughout the Southeast. Controlling them is complicated by the fact they are so well-protected beneath the soil surface. The best time of the year to apply insecticide controls is during late Spring and/or late Summer. Nature's Select has developed a treatment program which, if applied during late spring, will provide all-season-long control of grubs and other lawn-infesting insect pests. This is a cost-effective, proven approach that has low toxicity to earthworms, fish, birds and mammals. We are tough on grubs, yet conscientious of the environment. |
