Are you excited for spring? The team at Nature’s Select™ Premium Turf Services, Inc. sure is! As your lawn starts to wake up from its winter slumber, it’s time to start preparing for growing season so you can have a beautiful green lawn all spring and summer long. While it may seem beneficial to begin your lawn care routine as soon as the weather starts to warm up, you really should wait until the lawn has mostly greened up. Once it has, you can start with these three spring lawn care tasks.

Spring Lawn Care

1. Yard Raking and Cleanup

After months of harsh weather, most yards will need some debris cleanup before any other lawn care can take place. Simply raking up any remaining leaves and other organic debris can help ensure your lawn gets the sunlight it needs to begin growing again. As you rake, make sure to use a leaf rake, not a hard garden rake, so you’re gentle on your lawn and not causing damage to your turf. Also, survey your lawn for any areas that may be compacted or have excessive thatch, as they will need aerated or dethatched.

2. Fertilization and Weed Control

Some of the most important steps to a lush green lawn took place last winter with winter fertilizer applications. With the groundwork set last year, spring lawn care will be easier. This is the perfect time to apply weed-preventing treatments to your lawn, in order to curb crabgrass and spring weeds while replenishing the root system with nutrients for vibrant strength all season long.

3. Seeding

If your lawn has patches that need filled in, the best time to seed is when the ground is no longer frozen but the stress of summer heat hasn’t yet begun. The best part about seeding in the spring is that seasonal rain will do most of the hard work for you. Go ahead and plant grass seed in needed patches, then make sure they are watered daily for one to two weeks (either by you or Mother Nature).
