Why Choose Nature's Select®

Nature's Select® is a locally-owned biological lawn care company that has served the North Carolina since 1994. The approach prioritizes soil health over symptom treatment, uses fewer plant-care chemicals, and is delivered by local, specialized technicians rather than call-center routing.

The starting point is the soil. Healthy biological soil supports beneficial microbes, holds water through drought, and suppresses many pest and disease pressures before they require treatment. When a treatment is required, the application is matched to the actual pressure, timed to the weather window the pressure responds to, and limited to the lowest effective rate. The customer-facing side mirrors the technical side: the technician who walks your property is the same person who answers your call. Local ownership across the Triad, Triangle, and Sandhills locations means the team knows the area's soils, the dominant turf types, and the seasonal pressure calendar. The result is a lawn that compounds over years rather than starting over each spring.

How Biological Lawn Care Actually Works

How Biological Lawn Care Actually Works

Biological lawn care is not a marketing label, it is a measurable approach. The program immediately begins building the soil profile (organic matter, microbial diversity, pH, and nutrient balance) and assesses specific deficiencies if problems appear. From there, the team applies biological inputs (compost teas, beneficial microorganisms, organic matter amendments) to rebuild the soil environment over the first 12-18 months. As biology compounds, the lawn requires fewer interventions: the soil holds water through drought, suppresses many pests at the root level, and feeds the turf at a sustained rate rather than in synthetic spikes. The soil-test interpretation, the input schedule, and the year-by-year compounding curve live on the dedicated approach page. The principles below show what that program looks like in practice.

Our Story Since 1994

Our Story Since 1994

Nature's Select® started in Winston-Salem in 1994 with one question: why were no lawn care companies using the regenerative agricultural practices that build soil health? That thinking did not begin in 1994. Its roots trace back to a family farm in 1800s Ohio, where biological inputs were used to help crops grow. At the time the company launched, every other provider in the region was calendar-spraying broad-spectrum chemicals and rotating customers through programs that produced the same lackluster results each year. The founding approach asked the opposite question: what if a healthy biological soil environment could do most of the work, and chemicals were reserved for when they were actually required?

Three decades later, that same principle drives every visit. The company has expanded across North Carolina with owner-operated locations in the Triad, Triangle, and Sandhills, and Winston-Salem, where it all began in 1994, remains an active location today. The technicians carry the same biological training that the original team carried in 1994. The customer relationship is still personal: the technician who walks your property is the person you reach when you have a question.

What Makes Nature's Select® Different

Six principles separate Nature's Select® from conventional lawn care providers. Each one is delivered on every visit, not just listed on the website. The principles compound: a soil-first program creates the conditions where fewer chemicals are required, which protects pollinators, which builds the customer relationship a call-center model cannot match.

Soil-First, Not Symptom-First

Most lawn problems are soil problems wearing turf disguises. Nature's Select® invests in soil biology first: beneficial microbes, organic matter, balanced minerals, so the lawn defends itself between visits. Symptoms get treated when soil work is not enough, never as the first move.

Spoon-Fed Nutrients Reduce Pollution

The year-round program splits nutrient inputs into smaller, properly timed applications. The lawn absorbs more, runoff drops, and nitrogen and phosphorus stay out of the watershed. Spoon-feeding works because biological soil holds nutrients tightly, the opposite of calendar dumps that wash off in the first storm.

Drought-Resilient Soil

Organic content in healthy soil holds significantly more water than compacted clay or chemically depleted ground. That difference shows up as fewer brown-out days during summer dry stretches and lower irrigation bills year over year. Soil that holds water also holds nutrients: the two outcomes ship together.

Fewer Plant-Care Chemicals

Healthy plants resist most pests and diseases on their own. Nature's Select® applies broad-spectrum chemicals only when pressure crosses a treatment threshold, then matches the product to the pathogen at the lowest effective rate, on the affected area only. Our 7-visit program catches problems early, so steady presence means fewer outbreaks, not fewer visits.

Local Owner, Local Technician

Every franchise is owned and operated locally. The technician walking your property is the same person who picks up the phone when you call, no call center routing, no anonymous dispatch. The team knows the soils, the turf types, and the seasonal pressure calendar specific to the Triad, Triangle, or Sandhills and your technician knows your lawn as well as their own.

Pollinator-Aware Application

Nature's Select® affiliates with the North Carolina State Beekeepers Association and applies that affiliation on every visit. No broad spray of insecticide during bloom on flowering plants. Beneficial soil fungi (mycorrhizae, decomposer organisms) get protected so they can keep doing the work for you.
